When you make an enquiry about a part with a main franchised VW or Audi dealership and give them your VIN number or NZ license plate number, they immediately have full data at their fingertips about every part number fitted to your car when it was built (and the modern version of that same part), and also they know every option that was used during the factory build.
But when you make the same enquiry with us, or with any other 3rd-party seller, we have some of that data available to us, but only a small percentage of it. We will often need more info to identify the correct part and to supply you the correct part, first time.
Most of the important data can be found by yourself, either inside the cover of the car's original handbook (which has often been lost by now) or on another copy of the "Build Data" sticker, which almost always lives in the spare wheel well of your car, and looks like the photo below. On a few models it could be under the rear seat cushion, instead. Everyone of those alphanumeric codes tells us details about your car.
We will sometimes ask you to send us a photo of the sticker, either in chat or by email. Doing this will speed up our reply and will also get us closer to being 100% accurate in identifying the correct part.
