Have you been told you need a new compressor for a 4-figure price? The NZ companies who repair and import parts for aircon do not keep this part and have no interest in stocking it - why would they, when they can make $1000 or more out of telling you that your Climate Control compressor is unrepairable, and selling you a complete new one, along with all of the labour costs in replacing and then re-gassing the system

Many failures of the Sanden compressors fitted to Volkswagen Audi Seat and Skoda fitted from approximately 2005 on are due to nothing more than a failure of this simple shear-plate clutch on the drive pulley , which can in fact be replaced in place, and without even taking off the drive belt or losing the refrigerant gas
This won't fix every failure, but if the compressor has not seized then it is certainly worth checking this clutch before having your wallet lightened. The splines in the middle of the clutch often wear out because the centre nut comes loose (no thread-lock at the factory) or else the spring-steel tongues fracture from old age

I have not yet used enough of these replacement parts to decide if they are at least as reliable as the genuine part originally fitted to your car, but it would hard for them to be much worse!
