LEDs may be "all that" but there are many applications where the colour temperature and dimmable nature of a halogen bulb is still preferable. A lot of domestic and commercial fittings have been sold in NZ over the last 20 years that require a G9, and many of them had multiple lamps in each one, necessitating the 25W capsule rather than the 40W version
Frosted is often desirable for decor reasons, also, but the frosted 25W is now almost impossible to buy in this country. Energy conservation regulations are forcing frosted bulbs off the shelves
